Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of color Doppler flow imaging for diagnosing renal artery stenosis. Methods 61 patients with 122 renal arteries were examined by both color Doppler flow imaging and renal angiography. Results The sensibility of color Doppler flow imaging for diagnosing renal artery stenosis was 90%, with the specificity 96%; while the sensibility for diagnosing significant renal artery stenosis was 86%, with the specificity 99%, to the arteries with less than 50% stenosis, the sensibility is 82%, and the specificity 96%. Color Doppler flow imaging determined the location of the renal artery lesion with an accuracy of 97%(33 of 34 arteries). Conclusion Color Doppler flow imaging is a valuable examination for the early diagnosis, screening and follow up of renal artery stenosis.
