Abstract
Micronucleus effects of the heavy metal ions Pb2+and Hg2+ on Vicia faba root cells were investigated with different concentrations of lead acetate and mercuric chloride. The results showed that within certain range of concentrations, both Pb2+ and Hg2+ can induce high micronucleus frequency(MCNF)of Vicia faba root cells with a dose dependent manner, however,MCNF was found not to increase in a linear pattern with high Pb2+ and Hg2+ concentration. So Vicia faba could be used as the material for fast detection of the genotoxicity of Pb2+ and Hg2+ in enviroment.
