Analysis of results of baseline survey of clonorchiasis in Taishan City

Objective To survey the epidemic situation of Clonorchiasis in Taishan area and provide scientific basis for control of the disease in Taishan City.Methods The townships of Taicheng and Dajiang were selected by stratified random sampling method and Clonorchis sinensis eggs in feces of population were detected by Kato-Katy thick smear methods.The intermediate and reservoir hosts of Clonorchis sinensis were also surveyed.Results The total infective rate of Clonorchis sinensis in the population was 6.8%,being 3.6% and 9.8% in the townships of Taicheng and Dajiang respectively.The infection rates in males and females were 7.0% and 6.5% respectively.The infection rates in 20～49 age group was higher than that of others.NO Clonorchis sinensis larvae and adults could be detected from local freshwater fishes,cats,dogs and mice;but Clonorchis sinensis eggs were detected from all cat liver。The cost of treatment for the two hospitalized clonorchiasis patients was $9584.7 yuan.Conclusion Clonorchiasis is detrimental to the health of local people and economic development.Thus effective measures be taken to control the prevalence of the disease.
