Pragmatic Ambivalence and Cognitive Environment

Abstract

This paper mainly discusses the dynamic relationship between pragmatic ambivalence and communicative context from cognitive and communicative perspective.Pragmatic ambivalence is an inevitable phenomenon in the process of applying language.The existence of pragmatic ambivalence shows the uncertainty of language in communicative activities;On the other hand,the negotiation of meaning of an utterance depends on the particular cognitive environment.
