On the Study of the Poetry Chanting Things of Ouyang Xiu

This essay briefly discusses the tradition of the poetry chanting things and then mainly talks about Ouyang Xiu's work at creation of poetry chanting things.He did well in describing things and moreover making remarks on nearly everything full of wit and humor,representing features of poetry of Song Dynasty:characterized by most remarks made frequently and text equals a poem;looking on flowers and birds as emotional sustenances in which he reposed feelings of being expelled and grieving over time's passing by;criticizing the realities and comparing things to personnel or political events to satirize;treasuring creatures and condemning acts of seizing or cruelly killing them.In his poetry,he compared things to individuals or vice versa and sometimes his poems appeared as fable ones.In his great efforts,things were chanted to go through human beings' life,see their will or express their spiritual pursuits;In contrast to different species or shapes of things,those to be glorified or denounced stood out.He extended imagination in his ancient-style poetry and elaborately depicted things,most of which were remarkable and extraordinary;He chanted things in his modern-style poetry more naturally and smoothly and so they seemed idle at ease.Compared with predecessors' works,Ouyang Xiu's poetry chanting things were mostly elaborately edited,varied in style and enriched in content.Therefore,it should gain a foothold in kinds of poetry chanting things.
