Abstract
Objective To understand the knowledge,attitudes and perceptions related to HIV/AIDS among young adults in Guizhou Province,and to provide basis for implementing other HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention programs.Methods A two-stage cluster sampling with probability proportional to size(PPS) was conducted.583 urban residents and 429 rural residents were interviewed using a structured questionnaire to collect the information on interviewees' knowledge,attitudes and perceptions related to HIV/AIDS.Comparison was conducted to find the differences between the two groups.Results The average score of HIV/AIDS knowledge was 15.48 for urban residents and 9.75 for rural residents(22 in total.Urban residents had a higher HIV/AIDS knowledge level than rural residents.Rural residents tended to discriminate against people who live with HIV/AIDS more than urban residents.Factors related to high-risk behaviors included living in China CARES area,education level,gender and occupation.Conclusion Level of HIV/AIDS knowledge need to be improved among urban and rural residents in Guizhou Province through multi-format of education and there is a need to help them reduce discrimination and change their high-risk behaviors.
