Abstract

Objective To investigate psychological stress and personality of the medical personnel carrying out manoeuvres over the sea and their correlation. Methods The 52 medical personnel carrying out manoeuvres over the sea were investigated. The survey was conducted a week before the manoeuvres over sea started (pre-manoeuvre group) and on 58th day of manoeuvres (post manoeuvre ). They were determined by Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ). Results Compared with the national norm no significant difference was seen before manoeuvres started. The positive item, somatization, phobia, psychopathy, suspense of the post manoeuvre were obviously higher than the national norm (P0.001, P0.01, P0.05 respectively). Moreover, the positive item, somatization, phobia, depression, additive item of the post manoeuvres were significantly higher than that of the pre-manoeuvres group (P0.001, P0.01, P0.05). The post manoeuvres had higher score in the psychoticism and the neuroticism of EPQ(P0.05). The differences were not significant in the scores in the introvert and extrovert, conceal. The dimensionality of the post manoeuvres the neuroticism and the psychoticism was analyzed in detail and the No.3, No.9, No.12, No.30, No.34, No.59, No.73, No.76, No.82, No.88 item of the EPQ showed higher frequency. Taking each dimensionality of EPQ as independent variable, taking the whole average score and the factor score of SCL-90 as attributive variable,we carried through stepwise multiple regression. In the equations, P entered the whole average score of SCL-90 and every factor equation without hostility;N entered the whole average score of SCL-90 and every factor equation without somatization and phobia;E entered the equation of interpersonal sensitivity and depression. Conclusion The level of mental health of medical personnel carrying out manoeuvres demonstrates downtrend, the psychoticism and the neuroticism are easy to bring negative emotion. The more diffidence in personality the more interpersonal sensitivity and depression. These characters are easy to produce certain mental health problems on individual cognizance, sensibility, behave and adaptability.
