Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship of psychological health and personality characteristics in hospitalized soldiers with neurosis. Methods Thirty-two hospitalized soldiers with neurosis were assessed with Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90). Results The factor scores of SCL-90 in hospitalized soldiers with neurosis were significantly higher than Chinese recruit norm and Chinese armyman norm (P0.05),mainly in the compulsion, anxiety and depression factors. The EPQ scores of neuroticism (N) and psychoticism (P) were significantly higher, and the EPQ scores of extra-introversion (E) were significantly lower (P0.05) than the Chinese norm. EPQ-N had significantly positive correlation with factor and total scores of SCL-90. EPQ-P was positively correlated with the total score and scores of interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, paranoid ideation and psychoticism of SCL-90. EPQ-E was negatively correlated with the scores of interpersonal sensitivity and depression. EPQ-L was negatively correlated with the total score and factor scores on SCL-90 except for somatization and phobia. Conclusion Soldiers with neurosis have many psychological problems. SCL-90 and EPQ examination in the recruitment can effectively avoid the enlistment of patients with serious psychological problem and psychiatry.
