Effects of modified electroconvulsive therapy on memory of schizophrenia patients

Abstract

ObjectiveTo explore the effects of modified electroconvulsive therapy(MECT)on memory of schizophrenia patients and conduct a related factor analysis.Methods 60 schizophrenia patients were treated with MECT for 8times,and the tests of BPRS,Wechsler Memory Scale factors and MQ values before and after therapies were conducted.ResultsThe effective rate was 78.3%,the average reduction rate of BPRS was 51%;there were no significant differences between education and sex in the factors of Wechsler Memory Scale and MQ values(P0.05).Wechsler Memory Scale recognition and association factor scores of Wechsler Memory Scale raised after therapies(P0.05),but the MQ values before and after therapies showed no significant difference(P0.05).ConclusionsMECT can partly improve the executive function of memory of schizophrenia,but there is no overall improvement of memory function in patients.MECT has a broad indications.
