Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between bone mineral density(BMD) and the biochemical factor of bone metabolism,serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b(TRAP-5b),in postmenopausal women.Methods One hundred and fifteen postmenopausal women who were hospitalized in our department from 2007 to 2009 were enrolled.BMD of the lumbar vertebrae(L2-L4),the proximal femur(including the femoral neck,the Wards triangular area,and TROCH) was tested using dual X-absorptiometry(DPX2L).All the subjects were divided into 2 groups,the normal bone mass group and the osteoporotic group according to T score.Thirty pre-menopausal women were selected,and people among them with normal BMD were selected as normal control group.The concentrations of serum alkaline phosphatase(ALP),osteocalcin(BGP),and TRAP-5b were examined using ELISA method.The changes of biochemical factors of bone metabolism among 3 groups were compared,and the correlation between BMD and each biochemical factor of bone metabolism was analyzed.Results BMD of each location in the osteoporotic group was significantly lower than that in the normal bone mass group(P0.05).The concentrations of ALP,BGP,and TRAP-5b in the osteoporotic group were significantly higher than those in the normal bone mass group(P0.05).The concentrations of ALP,BGP,and TRAP-5b in the normal bone mass group were higher than those in the normal control group,and the difference was significant(P0.05).BMD of each location in the normal control group did not show obvious correlation with the biochemical factors of bone metabolism(P0.05).The concentrations of ALP and TRAP-5b were negatively correlated with BMD of the lumbar vertebrae(L2-L4) and the femoral neck in postmenopausal women in the osteoporotic group(r=-0.248,-0.364,-0.434,-0.386,respectively).Conclusion Osteoporosis(OP) in postmenopausal women is characterized of high turn-over.The changes of serum ALP,BGP,and TRAP-5b levels reflect the activity of bone metabolism.The decrease of BMD in postmenopausal women is related with high turn-over.The detection of metabolic factors will make contributions to the prevention of OP at an early stage.
