Abstract

Two multimodal structures and a submicron structure WC-12Co cermet coatings were deposited by HVOF technology, and the coating microstructure, phase composition and micro-hardness were analyzed by SEM and XRD methods. As well,on the basis of ball-on-disc test of the coating wear resistant, the wear failure mechanisms of WC-12Co coatings were explored.Research results show that the multimodal coating deposited by the powder containing 30% nano-size WC-12Co particles has the least decarburization during spraying and the highest coating micro-hardness.Meanwhile,the another multimodal coating deposited by the powder containing 50% nano-size WC-12Co particles possesses the most excellent wear resistance with important potential applications in marine machinery.
