Investigation on HIV/AIDS Knowledge and the Use of Condom among 299 Street-based Female Sex Workers in Yunnan Province

Objective To get information of AIDS relevant knowledge and the use of condom among Street-based Female Sex Workers (FSWs).Methods Using a snowball sampling method,a survey was conducted anonymously including demographic characteristics,so as to provide basis for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS,HIV/AIDS knowledge and the use of condom among street-based FSWs.Results As a whole, the basic knowledge rate of AIDS awareness was 73.2%,but there were some misunderstandings in the community,the complete correct rate of awareness of HIV/AIDS preventive knowledge was only 55.2%.The rate of condom use per sex in the last month sexual intercourse with client and steady sex partners were 74.6% and 33.3% re spectively,and there were correlation among age,residence,HIV testing in recent year and accessed to con- doms.Conclusion We should strengthen propaganda and education for them about HIV/AIDS knowledge based on their needs and the best way,and promote condom usage,especially increase condom use in sex course with steady sex partners.
