Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinically therapeutical effect of compound areca gargle on dental plaque and gingivitis. Methods 216 cases of the patients with chronic gingivitis were chosen and divided into three groups by randomlydouble-blind method: Compound Areca gargle group, furacillini gargle group and dis- tilled water group. The GI (gingival index)、SBI (sulus bleeding index)、PLI (plaque index) were examined before and after mouth washing. Results The indexes of GI、SBI、PLI were significantly decreased after using Compound Areca gargle (P 0.01), and the effect was better the than that treated with of distilled water. The effective rate of Compound Areca gargle for gingivitis was 95%, and significant difference was observed when compared with those in the group treated with Furacillini gargle (p 0.05) . Conclusion Compound Areca gargle can effectively con- trol the dental plaque and relieve gingivitis, and has the advantae of less side-effects.
