Analysis of fibrobronchoscopy for 257 female patients with lung cancer

Abstract

Objective To analyse the pathologic characteristics through fibrobronchoscopy in female patients with lung cancer.Methods The fibrobronchoscopic examination data of 257 lung cancer in female patients were analyzed retrospectively.Results The chest radiographs of lung cancer patients presented as basically mass opacities (54.9%),flaky opacities (15.6%),and atelectatic opacities (15.6%).The most frequent histologic types were squamous cell carcinoma (61.8%) followed by adenocarcinoma (22.2%) and small cell carcinoma (14.6%) in 144 histologically proven lung cancer cases.Among 257 female patients with lung cancer 43.6% had infiltrative lesion,37.7% had hyperplastic lesion,and 37.7% had indirect sign.The yield of cytology was 76.7% and yield of pathological examination was 56.0%.54.8% of lesions were on the right while the most common location was the upper lobes.Conclusions Fibrobronchoscopy is an important approach in diagnosis of lung cancer.Combination of fibrobronchoscopy and chest radiographs is valuable to early detect lung cancer in female patients.
