Abstract

Polypropylene (PP) grafted polystyrene (PP-g-PS) and polypropylene grafted poly(ethyl acrylate) (PP-g-PEA) were prepared by solid state grafting polymerization. The effects of initiator concentration, reaction temperature, reaction time and monomer type on percentage grafting and grafting efficiency were examined. The structure and thermal behavior of the grafted polypropylene were also characterized. The result of mechanical properties analysis shows that the toughness of nanosilica/polypropylene composites can be greatly improved by adding low content PP-c-PS.
