A Case Study on Evolution and Contact of Xiang Dialect in Guangxi——Taking Ziyuan Dialect in Guangxi as an Example

Ziyuan of Guangxi is closely linked to the southern area of Hunan as a result of history,geography,immigration and other factors,and its dialect is generally considered to be Xiang dialect.However,Ziyuan is located in the frontier between Xiang dialect and Southwestern Mandarin,in which dialects contact each other frequently.And under the impact of Guilin dialect,which is the representative of Southwestern Mandarin,Ziyuan Dialect has evolved with characteristics of voice,vocabulary,grammar and so on.So it belongs to Xiang dialect with several characteristics of Southwestern Mandarin.Under the infiltration and influence of Southwestern Mandarin,its characteristics of Xiang dialect will continue to shrink,and the characteristics of Southwestern Mandarin will gradually increase.It will move closer to Southwestern Mandarin in the future.
