Abstract
To simplify the cultivation technique of cotton, and reduce the planting cost, using new insect-resistant cotton varieties Ji 3927 and Jimian 3536 as the materials, three treatments were set up including retaining one vegetative branch, two branches and all branches, the effects of number of vegetative branches on the yield and main agronomic characters were studied. The results showed that by retaining vegetative branches, the boll number, branch number and seed cotton yield could be increased, the lint percentage, boll weight, seed index, and the incidence of Verticillium wilt could be decreased. The effect of retaining one branch was the best, which could be used as the simplified training method.
