Abstract
In order to simplify the cultivation of Ji 3927,the effects of plant pruning way(removing vegetative branches and saving vegetative branches)and planting density(12,24,36,48,60,72 thousand plants per hectare)on the reproductive traits and yields of cotton cultivar Ji 3927 was studied by the split plot design method. The results showed that saving vegetative branches restrained the growth of main stem, shortened the plant height and decreased the number of fruit branches, but the number of bolls per plant was increased because of the compensation of the bolls on vegetative branches. With the increase of planting density the plant height, number of fruit branches, number of bolls per plant and boll weight of Ji 3927 were decreased gradually, but the number of bolls per square meter and the cotton yield were increased firstly then decreased.Saving vegetative branches the cotton yield reached peak when the planting density was from 36 thousands to 48 thousands plants per hectare, but removing vegetative branches the cotton yield reached peak when the planting density was from 48 thousands to 60 thousands plants per hectare.Plant pruning way and planting density affected the cotton yield differently, there was no significant difference for plant pruning way,but there was extremely significant difference for planting density and interaction between plant pruning way and planting density. The simplified high yield cultivation technology of Ji 3927 could be realized with the retention of vegetative branches at middle planting density(from 36 thousands to 48 thousands plants per hectare).
