The Explanatory Power of Prototype Theory towards Markedness on Semantic Level

Markedness is an analytical principle of linguistics,it reflects the asymmetrical relation in language categories and can be widely applied in phonetics,semantics,grammatical analysis,sentence structures,pragmatics and applied linguistics.Therefore,markedness is valuable for various levels of linguistic analysis.This article mainly discusses markedness on semantic level and attempts to use prototype category theory to explain it.Finally,the author discusses the influence of markedness on second language acquisition.
