Metaphor in Perspective of Relevance Theory

The interpretation of metaphor is studied based on the relevance theory proposed by Sperber and Wilson.On the basis of a series of discussion of the semantic features of metaphor,the idea of relevance of metaphor is presented.It's maintained that the process of metaphor interpretation is the one of seeking optimal relevance guided by the similarity of metaphor topic and vehicle within proper contexts.
