Abstract

Objective:To study renal protective effect of extract of stigmata maydis and its mechanism of in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Methods:Healthy male SD rats were randomly divided to 3 groups,At 4 and 8 weeks after the onset of diabetes, blood glucose(BG),screatinine clearance rate(Ccr)and 24h urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER) were measured. The expression of protein and mRNA of nephrin in renal cortices were semi-quantitatively measured by RT-PCR.Results:At 4 and 8 weeks, blood glucose(BG),screatinine clearance rate(Ccr),24 urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER) were higher in diabetic group than in normal control group, these parameters were significantly decreased in group stigmata maydis-treated diabetic group.RT-PCR analysis showed that expression of nephrin mRNA in renal cortex of diabetic group was obviously decreased. The expression of nephrin mRNA and protein was higher in the stigmata maydis treated diabetic group than the diabetic group. Conclusion:The study suggests that stigmata maydis has effect in protecting kidney of diabetic rats.
