Plasma levels of fibrinopeptide A,prothrombin fragment 1+2,antithrombin III and their association with platelet count in patients with ulcerative colitis

Abstract

Objective To study the plasma levels of fibrinopeptide A(FPA),prothrombin fragment 1+2(F1+2),antithrombin Ⅲ(AT-Ⅲ)and their association with platelet count in patients with ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods We randomly selected 40 active UC patients,20 remissive UC patients and 20 healthy individuals for the study.The plasma levels of FPA,F1+2 and AT-III were measured by the methods of enzyme linked immunosorbant assays(ELISA) for all participants,respectively.Results The concentrations of FPA and F1+2 were significantly different in the three groups of participants(P0.05),which were the highest in patients with active UC,followed by those in patients with remissive UC and healthy individuals.The concentration of AT-Ⅲ was the lowest in patients with active UC,which was followed by that in patients with remissive UC and healthy controls(P0.01).The increases of FPA,F1+2 concentrations and the decrease of AT-Ⅲ concentration were associated with UC severity and the lesion areas in active UC patients(P0.01).There were significantly positive correlation between platelet count and the concentrations of FPA and F1+2 in UC patients.A negative correlation was confirmed between the concentration of AT-Ⅲ and FPA or F1+2 or platelet count(P0.05).Conclusion The levels of FPA,F1+2 and AT-Ⅲ were correlated with disease activity and severity in patients with UC.There was an obvious prothrombotic state in active UC patients.
