Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of fragile histidine triad(FHIT) protein and its relationship with the prognosis in the bladder urothelial carcinoma. Methods Expression of FHIT protein was detected using immunohistochemical SP in 62 cases of bladder uroepthelial carcinoma tissues and 35 cases of normal bladder tissues. All 62 patients with bladder cancer were followed up.The data was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Results Positive rate of FHIT protein expression was 41.94%(26/62)and 97.14%(34/35) in bladder uroepthelial carcinoma and normal bladder tissues, respectively.Positive rate of FHIT protein expression was 54.05%(20/37)for gradeⅠ,24.00%(6/25)for gradeⅡ-Ⅲ.FHIT protein expression positive rate for Tis-T1 and T2-T4 were 46.15%(18/39) and 34.78%(8/23),respectively.The difference in positive rate of FHIT protein expression was statistically significant between two groups(P0.05).After followed-up for five years, survival rates were 47.16% and 52.83% in FHIT protein positive and negative patients(P0.05).Conclusion The results suggest that FHIT protein may play an important role in evolution and progress of bladder uroepthelial carcinoma.
