Abstract

Objective: To study the effects of Jiang Tang Cha on the diabetic rats and its possible mechanism. Methods: Diabetes was induced by a single injection of streptozotocin after a month of high fat diet. The data of body weight gain and the blood glucose was assembled as well as the blood fat including CH,TC,HDL-C and LDL-C.The SOD/MDA levels were also examined in the serum, liver and kidney. Finally, the morphology of the islet cells was evaluated by HE staining. Results: Compared with diabetes group, the blood glucose signifi-cantly decreased in Jiang Tang Cha treated group(P 0.01),and the effect of Jiang Tang Cha on increasing the ISI was also better than that in diabetes group(P 0.05);Jiang Tang Cha signifi-cantly lessened pathological damage, and increased islet cells positive to insulin;Jiang Tang Cha significantly degraded MDA levels(P 0.05)and upgraded SOD levels(P 0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion: Jiang Tang Cha exerts a good protective and reparative effect on diabetic rats possibly by regulating the SOD/MDA levels and reparative effect on islet cells damage.
