Analysis on HIV-related knowledge,attitude,condom using and STD prevalence among commercial sex workers in a township

Objective To investigate the HIV-related knowledge,attitude,condom using and STD prevalence among commercial sex workers(CSW),and provide evidence for conducting health education and behavioral intervention.Methods After getting the informed consent from the CSWs,one-by-one questionnaire interview and the specimen for STD test were conduct.Results CSWs were poor educated;62.5%～71.3% knew transmission routes;none of CSWs considered herself in danger of getting HIV.Only 7.5% of them used condoms in commercial sex intercourse.The reason for that was the clients refused to use,the clients seemed to be healthy,and never thought about using condoms.50.0% CSWs had STD.The prevalence of gonorrhea,chlamydia trachomatis,syphilis and infusorians were 21.3%,8.8%,13.8%,6.3% respectively.Conclusions CSWs' HIV-related knowledge is low;condom using rate is low,and prevalence of STD is high.There is an emergency need of promoting 100% condom use to prevent HIV/STD in village and township entertainment places.
