The current situation of infantile diarrhea in Songzi district of Hubei Province

Objective: To provide theoretical evidence for treatment and prevention of infantile diarrhea in Songzi District by understanding the types and current situation of it.Methods: 2 183 fecal specimens of infants with diarrhea were collected and detected from May 2008 to April 2010.Results: In these 2 183 cases of the infantile diarrhea,884 cases were caused by dyspepsia or were physiologic diarrhea,accounting for 40.5% of the total number,and there was no difference among ages,genders and seasons;772 cases of intestinal catarrh caused by bacteria or fungus infection were detected,accounting for 35.4% of all the sickness infants,and it was related to age and season;506 diarrhea cases were caused by rotavirus infection,accounting for 23.2%,but 70.4% of these type cases happened from autumn to winter,and much more cases of this diarrhea type were below 1 years old;21 shigellosis cases were found,accounting for 0.9% of all the cases,there was no difference among ages and genders.Conclusion: Infection is the main factor to cause infantile diarrhea,and the occurrence of diarrhea is related to season.
