Abstract

A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace lead has been studied,based on the discoloration reaction between KIO4 and acid chrome blue K in H2SO4 solution with 2,2′bipyridyl as an activator.The maximum absorption wavelength is at 526 nm.The linear range of lead is 0.002~0.006 μg/mL and detection limit is 2.0×10-4 μg/mL.There are no interference from the most common ions.The method has been used to determined trace lead in tin samples with satisfactory results.
