Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation of high sensitive C reactive protein(hs-CRP)and carotid artery intima media thickness(IMT) in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods 207 patients with cerebral infarction were classified into 3 groups according to the IMT(Group Ⅰ:IMT≤0.92 mm;Group Ⅱ:0.92 mmIMT≤2.00 mm;Group Ⅲ:IMT2.00 mm).According to the occurance of carotid arteriosclerosis, there were carotid arteriosclerosis group and non-carotid arteriosclerosis group.101 healthy individuals were enrolled as healthy controls. The levels of hs-CRP in fasting serum were determined in every group. The difference was compared and analyzed. Results The level of hs-CRP of patients with cerebral infarction was higher than that of healthy control group(P0.01).There was difference in the levels of hs-CRP between the different IMT groups, and the levels of hs-CRP increased with IMT(P0.05,P0.01).The levels of hs-CRP in carotid arteriosclerosis group were significantly higher than those in non-carotid arteriosclerosis group(P=0.003).The hs-CRP was positively correlated with IMT(r=0.239,P=0.028).Conclusions hs-CRP is an important index for predicting carotid arteriosclerosis and cerebral infarction.
