Expression and Clinical Significance of Cyclooxygense-2 and Bcl-2 in Renal Cell Carcinomas

Objective To detect the expression of cyclooxygense(COX-2)and Bcl-2 in renal cell carcinomas and study the prognostic predictor for renal cell carnoma.Methods The expression of COX-2 and Bcl-2 in 40 primary RCC specimens was examined by immunohistochemical procedures.To evaluate the relationship between COX-2 and Bcl-2,and study their relationship to clinical staging,pathologic grading,history type,invasion and metastasis in renal cell carcinoma.Results The positive rate of COX-2 and Bcl-2 in renal cell carcinoma was 25/40 and 29/40 respectively.But there was no or weak expression in non-cancerous tissues of kidney.Overexpression of COX-2 in renal cell carcinomas was related to its clinical staging,pathologic grading and history types.Overexpression of Bcl-2 in renal cell carcinomas was related to clinical staging,pathologic grading but no related to its history types.The expression of COX-2 was positively correlated with the expression of Bcl-2.Conclusion The high level expression of COX-2 and Bcl-2 in renal cell carcinoma may play a crucial role in its clinical staging,pathologic grading,invasion and metastasis in renal cell carcinoma.Indicating that COX-2 and Bcl-2 in high level might be helping to the diagnosis and also an important indicator in predicting the bad prognosis.
