Abstract
[Objective] To investigate the expression and significance of survivin gene in children with acute leukemia(AL).[Methods] The expression of survivin gene were examined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)in bone marrow cells from 42 cases of childhood acute leukemia,13 cases of complete remission AL(AL-CR)and 15 cases of children without malignance disease in control group.[Results] The expression of survivin in AL group was higher than that of control group and complete remission group(P 0.01).Between relapsed group and incipient group, the level of survivin mRNA expression was significantly different(P 0.01).Among patients in incipient group, the level of survivin mRNA expression in high-risk patients was significantly higher than that in standard-risk patients(P 0.01).We had an effect evaluation on 19 cases of AL patients. The survivin mRNA expression level in patients who achieved complete remission(CR)was significantly lower than that in patients with no remission(NR)both before and after chemotherapy(P 0.05).[Conclusions] Survivin gene may contribute to the pathogenesis and the progress of the childhood acute leukemia;Survivin gene may become a marker for the treatment evaluation for children with acute leukemia.Survivin may be related to poor prognosis of childhood acute leukemia.
