Abstract
Objective: To investigate the method and efficacy of microvascular decompression(MVD) for hemifacial spasm(HFS).Methods: Data,especially the efficacy of surgery and complications related to the procedure,of 34 HFS patients who had been surgically treated by MVD was studied retrospectively.Follow-up visit with telephone was carried within 1-2 years.Results: The symptoms disappeared immediately in 27 patients after MVD,disappeared piecemealy within 1 month in 4 cases,and remitted in 3 of the 34 patients.No patient recidivist.After 1-2 years,2 cases suffered slight hemifacial palsy,and 1 case suffered hearing decline gently.Conclusion: MVD is an effective and less invasive treatment for HFS.Correct identification of the affected vessel and better understanding of operating method are important factors for successful procedure.
