Abstract

Objective To review the complications of filtering bleb from eyes undergoing the glaucoma filtration surgery and evaluate the efficiency f the treatment. Methods From February 2000 to pril 2002 all patients after trabeculectomy were retrospectively reviewed. The complication of filtering bleb and its reason were analyzed. The treatment causing these complications were also discussed. Results 55 cases(68 eyes)of glaucoma were operated by trabeculectomy.Filtering bleb scarring occurred in 11 eyes;Bleb leak occurred in 2 eyes;Infected bleb occurred in 1 case;Encapsulated bleb1 case, and oversized bleb 1 case.Patients were enrolled on a consecutive basis and prospectively followed up.Standard trabeculectomies were performed.During the first two years, five of 7 cases of early onset bleb scarring had been controlled in IOP,however, only one of 4 cases late onset bleb scarring remained normal IOP level merely when treated with glaucoma drugs.Filtering bleb leak and blebitis were cured after treatment.Likewise, encapsulated bleb and oversized bleb were also controlled. Conclusions There are numerous early and later bleb related problems following filtering surgery.Serious results would be avoided if treated promptly and precisely.
