Abstract

Objective:Phenol degrading bacteria was screened to improve more conductive to microbial phenol degradation. Method: Using phenol as sole carbon and energy source, the phenol degrading-bacteria have been screened. Result: A kind of phenol degrading bacterial (ZJ-1), which was able to grow on phenol as sole carbon and energy source, was isolated from activated sludge of Urumqi Wastewater Treatment Plant. The highest endurance capability of this bacterial strain for phenol was 1 000mg/L. The results showed that the bacterial strain had strong phenol degradation capability. The phenol degradation rate was above 81% within 48 hours. When phenol concentration was between 300mg/L and 500mg/L, the temperature was 32 ℃, the pH was about 7, the inoculation volume was 1% and the speed of shake bed was 120r/min .When phenol concentration exceeded 1 000mg/L, there is no evident degradation effect. Conclusion:The bacterial strain (ZJ-1) had strong phenol degradation capability. It has broad application prospects.
