Abstract

Aim To investigate the significance of expression of p16INK4A in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and precursors. Methods The immunohistochemistry method was used to determine the expression of p16INK4A in 45 cases of invasive squamous cell carcinomas,25 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and 20 cases of non-neoplastic cervices. Results The p16INK4A over-expression rate was 100%(45/45) of squamous cell carcinoma and 88%(22/25) of CIN respectively. The p16INK4A protein was not detected in normal cervical specimens and reactive hyperplasia tissue. Conclusion p16INK4A was one of the useful marker for the diagnosis of epithelial neoplasm and precursors of cervix uteri.
