Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical features and epidemiology information on 77 measles patients admitted to our hospital in 2005.Methods A retrospective analysis is conducted on 77 cases of measles, including their age, season of onset, clinical presentations and complications, the laboratory results and the final clinical outcome. Results The peak season of onset was between March and June.Age of majority patients ranged from 20-49 years old(94.8%).Most patients had high fever over 1 week(62.3%).The complications in this group of measles patients included abnormal liver function test(63.6%),pneumonia(16.9%),tonsil enlargement(10.9%),hematuria(8.2%), diarrhea(5.5%),aphthous stomatitis(canker sores)(4.1%)and palpitation(2.7%).Among them,75 patients were tested positive for measles specific IgM antibody in their sera.Outcome of these patients was good. Conclusion Peak season of measles onset was between Mach and June in this cohort which was dominated by the adult patients. The migrating non-Shanghai residents represented the majority of this population.High fever was the major clinical feature and abnormal liver function test result was the top complication in this group of patients. The detection of measles specific IgM was the key positive laboratory diagnostic test.
