THE CONCEPT OF FOREGROUNDING IN THE ANALYSIS OF LITERARY STYLISTICS

Abstract

This essay begins with a discussion of the principles of literary stylistics,then goes on to examine the concept of foregrounding and its relation with some relevant elements,paying particular attention to the distinction between foregrounding and prominence.Based on the theoretical discussion,the present study offers an analysis of Maugham's A Luncheon to illustrate the function and significance of foregrounding in stylistic analysis.
