Foregrounding and Its Application in Literary Translation

For Russian Formalists,foregrounding means giving unusual prominence to one element or property of a text,relative to other less noticeable aspects.Foregrounding,in different forms,abounds in literary texts,therefore the success of a translated literary text depends largely on the preservation and transference of foregrounded parts from the source text to the target text.This paper attempts to trace the historical development of the concept and the forms of manifestation of foregrounding in literary and examines how the translator should exhaust the potentiality of the expressive function of the target language so as to preserve the homogeneity and novelty of the source text.
