Abstract
Hydraulic model test was carried out to study the velocity distribution behind the trashrack in lateral intake/outlet of a typical pumped storage power station. It is found that not only the trashrack but also the arrangement of the dividing piers as well as the configuration of transition section may significantly affect the velocity distribution. The incorrect arrangement of dividing piers and insufficient length of the transitional section are the major factors forming the disadvantageous velocity distribution in the intake/outlet.An improved scheme including the reasonable length of dividing pier and optimal slope of the floor in transition section is suggested. The effectiveness of the improved scheme is verified by experimental result.
