Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between human papillomavirus(HPV) infection and cervical interaepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and cervical cancer and to investigate the age distribution of HPV infection in CIN patients. Methods The detection of HPV DNA and HPV subtypes was carried out by means of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) with HPV universal and subtype specific primers. Results The detection rate of HPV DNA in the CINⅠ, CINⅡ/Ⅲ and cervical cancer groups was significantly higher than that of the cervicitis and control groups and the positive rates were 62.5%, 75.5%, 83.3%, 20% and 29.5% respectively. In the CIN group, HPV infection predominated within the 18-29 and 30-39 age groups, the detection rates of HPV infection in these two age groups were significantly higher than that of women aged 40 years or over. The positive rates of HPV16/18 were much higher in the CINⅡ/Ⅲ and cervical cancer patients than that of HPV6/11, but in groups of CINⅠ, cervicitis and controls, the data were just at the opposite. Conclusions HPV16/18 infection is closely correlated with CIN and cervical cancer, and the occurrence of CINⅡ/Ⅲ and cervical cancer has the trend of rejuvenation.
