Abstract
To observe the influence of phacoemulsification on corneal endothelium. Methods The number of corneal endothelium cells in the phacoemulsification group and the control group with extracapsular extraction of cataract were measured by specular microscope before surgery and 1~3 months after surgery. Results The rate of corneal endothelium loss in the phacoemulsification after 1 month,2 month, and 3 month of the operation were 7.38%,18.11%,11.53% respectively, which were the same as those of control group of 21.37%,10.33%, 2.54% ,( P 0.05),but there were significant differences within the phacoemulsification group for different degree of the techniques of the operator,( P 0.01).Conclusions The phacoemulsification will be safe and reliable as long as the techniques of operator are improved and the indications are strictly mastered. And the corneal endothelium is one of abstract parameters by which we select the cases before surgery and valuate the effect after operation.
