Abstract

Objective To explore the prognostic effect of montelukast on children patients with bronchiolitis. Methods 89 children patients with bronchiolitis in our hospital during the time from June 2006 to Nov 2007 were randomly divided into two groups treatment group and control group.Based on the treatment of budesonide suspl,Ventolin, and atomization inhalation.treatment group (46 patients) and control group (43) were administrated respectively with or without montelukast (4 mg for oral use at every night) for 3 months and then were follow-up visited for 1 year.We studied the effect of montelukast on children patients with bronchiolitis by observing the wheeze suppress, bellows rale, tussis, hospital day, serum IgE and iteration of gasping. The results of treatment group were significantly better than that of control group. After follow-up visit for 1 year, the incidence of gasping iteration for treatment group was significantly decreased than that of the control group (P0.05). Conclusions Long course of montelukast treatment (3 months) for children patients with bronchiolitis after clinical anesis could decrease the incidence of gasping iteration and is benefited to prognosis of bronchiolitis and early intervention of asthmatic.
