Abstract

Objective In order to provide a scientific basis for preventing and controlling malignant tumor, the current status of malignant tumor deaths and the life-span lost of residents in Ma’anshan were analyzed and studied. Methods The data was summarized in code according to ICD-9 and treated with SAS soft. The causes of life lost were analyzed by PYLL in 1987 and 2001. Results The results of malignant tumor mortality with different sex, ages and years of potential life lost were displayed in Ma'anshan from 1987 to 2001. The annual average mortality of the malignant tumor in residents was 106.14 per 100 000 during the past 15 years, and it was higher in men than in women and its ratio was 2.15. The first death cause was malignant tumor at all time. The top four death causes of malignant tumor were stomach, lung, liver and esophagus cancer. The proportion of the top third deaths of malignant tumor was 62.33% in the total deaths of malignant tumor. The proportions of deaths of stomach and lung cancer were respectively 66% and 68% in the age group of above 60 years old. The initiatory death age of liver cancer was 10~15 years earlier than that of lung cancer. The malignant tumor was the first cause in the residents' average life lost. Conclusions The malignant tumor was an important problem of public health in our district and must be paid great attention to it.
