Effects of Continuous Aspiration of Subglottic Secretion Combined with Intermittent Flushing in Patients with Artificial Airway Receiving Mechanical Ventilation

Abstract

Objective To investigate the application and effects of continuous aspiration of subglottic secretion combined with intermittent flushing in patients with artificial airway receiving mechanical ventilation. Methods Total 30 patients with mechanical ventilation from January 2012 to December 2012 in the ICU of our hospital were enrolled in the study. Other 30 patients with mechanical ventilation from January 2011 to December 2011 were taken as the control group. In control group,we used conventional methods to attract airway suctioning retentate,and in observation group,we used continuous subglottic secretions suction and intermittent flushing based on the conventional suction method. We observed the cases of VAP within seven days,and compared the incidence of VAP in both groups after 7 days( ventilator-associated pneumonia,VAP). Results The incidence of VAP stays in the observation group were lower than that in the control group( P 0. 05). Conclusion Continuous aspiration of subglottic secretion and intermittent flushing can effectively reduce the incidence of VAP.
