Abstract

Objective To study the role of COX-2 in the tumorigenesis and development of cervical carcinoma .Methods Immunohistochemical assay was used to examine COX-2 in 29 cases of cervical cancer, 14 cases of chronic cervicitis and 18 normal cervices. The relationship between the expression of COX-2 and the clinicopath-ologic parameters of cervical cancer was analyzed. Results (1)The overall positive expression rate of COX-2 in cervical cancer was 75.9% ,higher than that in normal cervix and chronic cervicitis(P0.005) .(2)The intensity of expression of COX-2 in cervical cancer was different between different tumor stages and tumor grades(0.05 P 0.10). (3)The overall positive expression rate of COX-2 in cervical squamous carcinoma was higher than that in cervical adenocarcinoma, but without statistically significant difference(P 0.05) , and there was no expression in cervical adenosquamous carcinoma. (4)The positive expression of COX-2 was observed in HeLa cells and SiHa cells, bat the intensity of expression of COX-2 was not significantly different between them. Conclusion The expression of COX-2 in cervical cancer is related to the occurrence and progression of the disease.
