Abstract
In may 1983, August 1984 and 1989, 19 083 adult female mopquitoes belonging to 44 species of 9 genera were captured from Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. Culex tritaeniorhynchus, C.whitmorei, C.fuscocephalus and Anopheles sinensis were the main species of mosquitoes in the rural stable. Aedes pseudalbopictus and Ae. albopictus were the superior species of mosquitoes in bamboo forest. Mosquitoes captured were examined by C6/36 cell method and suckling mouse method. Two strains of Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus were isolated from C.tritaeniorhynchus, three strains of JE virus were isolated from C.whitmorei, Ae.albopictus, and Ae. lineatopennis respectively. These results indicated that C.tritaeniorhynchus might be the main transmitting vector of JE virus in Dehong, while C.whitmorei, Ae. albopictus and Ae.lineatopennis are also considered to be transmitting vector of JE virus in Dehong.
