Abstract
The telecom equipment operating on telecom networks is varied and from different vendors. There is no location information about it. Therefore, the equipment location and the areas covered are unknowable. This brings difficulties to equipment management. The solution is to adopt Geographic Information System (GIS) in the network equipment management system. GIS supports the collection, storage and display of geographic space data, and provides information inquiry and analysis by relating the geographic space data with reference data. This paper introduces a network equipment management system using GIS technologies. Its architecture, modules and management flow chart are presented. It is concluded that this system could provide more efficient management and maintenance of network equipment.
