Abstract

Numerical simulations of 0801 typhoon have been done by using the latest version of WAVEWATCH Ⅲ(version3.14) released by NOAA/NCEP(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Centers for Environmental Prediction) ,in order to study distribution characteristics of sea surface significant wave height, wind wave and swell fields influenced by the typhoon. Results show that:1) Distribution and evolution of sea surface significant wave height are influenced by intensity and movement of the typhoon;2) The big wave generated in the process of typhoon is mainly wind wave;3) Distribution of swell field is almost contrary to that of wind wave field, and the swell field is distributed in the area far away from the center of typhoon;4) The wave height of swell field is less than that of wind wave field.
