Study on the Relationship Between Population and Economic Spatial Distribution in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone

Thanks to the help of population and GDP data of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone from 1998to 2008,based on the methods of regional gravity center and geographic concentration index,the coupling characteristics of the population and the economy of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone are analyzed,and the economic zone has been divided into three types by inconsistent index.Conclusions are found as follows:(1)The population gravity center of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone is located in the southeast direction.The economic gravity center transfered to the southwest direction from the southeast at the geometric center,and presented a north-south fluctuation pattern.The mobile of the population gravity center is much slower than the economic gravity center.(2)The degree of geography concentration of population and economy distributed along the Nanning-Beihai area in the study period.(3)According to inconsistent index,the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone can be divided into three types:population concentration lags behind economic concentration;population concentration is harmonized with economic concentration;population concentration advances before economic concentration.
