Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of various alcohols on liver. Methods 100 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups,40 rats in red wine group were given high-dose red wine and 40 rats in violent alcohol group were given high-dose violent alcohol, and 20 rats in control group were given NS at the same dose as that in two experimental groups by gavage, with a course of 3 months for the three groups. All the rats were killed after three months and their livers were taken to be examined by pathology. The morphological changes of liver cells were observed with light and electron microscope. Results Liver cells were severe damaged by violent alcohol, which resulted in alcoholic hepatitis and fat liver. There were significant differences in various parameters between violent alcohol group and red wine group as well as control group(P0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion Drinking high-dose violent alcohol at long term can cause inconvertible liver damage, which can result in alcoholic hepatitis and fat liver. However red wine causes light damage of liver cells, furthermore, the changes are reversible.
