Modernity and Modernization

The differences between and consist in the following facts. Firstly, modernization is mainly a category of economics and sociology, whereas modernity a philosophic category. Secondly, modernity is the fruit of modernization, and is an attribute resulting from the process and completion of modernization. Modernity has the following three characteristics: 1. it indicates the transformation from traditional to modern, which is embodied in the break with some traditions; 2. freedom constitutes the core of modernity, and the protection of various human rights constitutes the prerequisite of modernity; 3. modernity manifests itself as a process of establishing a mechanism of competition and reasonable norms, i.e., the rationalization of competition.
